The controlled paralyzing effect of the Botox ® and Dysport ® injections is indicated in the United States for cosmetic surgery for temporary and reversible (not final) treatment of the wrinkles caused by excessive muscle hyperactivity in several areas:
• Around the eyes (periorbital area) – “crows feet”
• eyebrows (glabellar) – “frown”
• Forehead (front)
Botox ® and Dysport ® are also used to correct asymmetries in brow height, in cases of asymmetry caused by muscular hypertonia and that a unilateral palpebral ptosis has been ruled out. In the nonsurgical treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of the hands or armpits, the use of Botox ® and Dysport ® can correct this condition for several months, greatly improving the quality of life of patients.
Dr. Ricardo Ventura performs treatments with Botox ® and Dysport ® in his practice, on an outpatient basis and requires no admission to the Clinic. The effect takes to appear a day or two and on rare occasions, after treatment, there may be minor bruising, which is resolved within a few days. A booster session may be necessary the following week.
